Dear Friends,
We are currently in the Jewish Month of Elul, annually a time of prayerful introspection of oneself before God. September 22nd begins what Jews call “The 10 days of awe”, the 10 days prior to the holiest day of the year, The Day of Atonement. It has been a spiritual treasure for me to learn about these practices and blessing to participate in cycles of examining my heart. “Search my heart oh God and know my heart…”(Psalm 139) During these days Psalm 27 is read daily,”The LORD is my light…One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.(vs.4)…My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek. (vs.8)…Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”(vs.14)
These words are Spirit breathed words alive and active with the power to rouse us to the prayer and fellowship He so much desires with us. (See 2 Tim. 3:16-17, Heb.4:12) The act of reading them alone can birth forth a prayerful spirit in us! Amen.
Not only is this ancient practice occuring during this season, but it seems to me the Holy Spirit is calling us all to prayerfulness and remembrance at this time. Check out the dates below, I felt many of them would be of special interest. Watch and Pray, and may we be found ready, may we know how deep and wide is His love for us!
