“The prayer preceding all prayers is ‘May it be the real I who speaks. May it be the real Thou that I speak to.'”

—C.S. Lewis

Time passes by us heavy some days. Days can pass and we pass with them like we’re drawn with bowling balls tied around our ankles; not sure whether we were here or there. But, if we have the grace to notice we are here now then that. is. wonderful. And we can begin here again, today.

What would beginning here with prayer, visiting with our Creator, look like for you today? What would it look like for me?

In a dream the other night I was writing a thought out, a true thought, onto the shirt of another. As I continued, the need to continue to write was completely erased. I was known, my fears were understood.

There I was, so completely known and understood that I didn’t even need to finish the thought.

It was a splendid moment, that even though I was dreaming, caught me up in such a powerful joy I can still sense it. It’s what we all want right? To be known, to feel understood; we ache for it.

imageThere’s myriad reasons days can go by without a prayer. I think most of it comes down to wrong ideas.

“Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that are ruining the vineyards…”

—Song of Songs 2:15

We need help here, we need kind and gentle Shepherding. David, shepherd king and poet of Israel, said, “…worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” And we will! We will worship the more we have the view of the beauty it is.

This is not about perfection, this is set-apartness with humility, this is choosing—to be found we’ve already been chosen, seen. What wonder and mystery.

“My beloved is mine, and I am his; he grazes among the lilies.”

—Song of Songs 2:16

Let’s enter into the beautiful,
